1st prize competition entry, 2015
commission: Ventspils municipality
architecture: Sarma Norde Architects, team: Visvaldis Sarma, Toms Kampars

The winning competition proposal is a regional 600 m2 library / community center. Located in a low-density suburban area it will concentrate the cultural activities and crucial information necessary for the surrounding population.

The volume appears open and welcoming, blending both the exterior and interior. The envelope is made entirely out of glass panels which transform into a curvature as the building faces the prominent trees on site. The facade indentation is not only a response to the nature but also provides a space for an outdoor terrace that receives the western sun. The interior, however, provides a solid and warm backdrop for the users to feel cozy and comfortable.

Construction expected to start in autumn 2020.
