A large bakery is given the scale and rhythm of a small village. Instead of forming a single industrial volume, the facility is arranged as a cluster of smaller buildings that settle more naturally into the surrounding landscape. After dark, their warm interiors glow through the windows, revealing the life of the bakery within.
Mass timber gives the seven volumes a shared character and draws on Latvia’s long relationship with wood. A glazed gallery weaves between them like an internal street, connecting the different parts of the programme from the production bakery and supporting spaces to a shop selling freshly baked goods and a restaurant serving regional food.
At the centre of this small indoor village is a meditative garden, offering visitors and travellers a quiet place to pause. Conceived as a prototype for future mixed-use facilities, the project explores how roadside architecture can feel more welcoming, locally grounded and connected to its surroundings.
